The children of Israel had no idea what the speed of light was. But God did.
In the Book of Numbers, God arranges the twelve tribes of Israel around the Tabernacle. The tribe of Judah gets placed on the east side - toward the rising sun. The direction of light.
Then in 2 Kings, God promises David that Judah will always have a light for his children. So Judah is the tribe associated with light.
Now here is where it gets wild.
In Numbers 2:9, Moses counts all the men in Judahs camp. The total? 186,400.
Fast forward to the early 1900s. Physicist Albert Michelson measures the speed of light in miles per second for the first time.
The number? About 186,000.
The tribe of light... numbered at 186,400... written 3,400 years before anyone could measure how fast light actually travels.
Now the honest part - the actual speed of light is 186,282 miles per second. So it is off by 118.
But still. A 99.94% match using a unit of measurement that would not even exist for another 2,500 years is a pretty interesting coincidence.
